In this paper a review will be done of the literature of Business Intelligence (BI), the advantages, disadvantages and obstacles to full adoption by business. The paper will also tie in the use of BI and how it can assist in improving project performance through Complex Event Processing (CEP) and other BI tools.The project management field is also dealing with the need to provide as close to real time project data, and allow users the ability drill down on project data to make quicker and better decision making. This need to reduce failure rates and increase real time project information, has provided a fertile opportunity to establish a project management standard for metrics and embrace the full use of BI. The paper will also review results of a survey conducted on these topics.
