As the year closed out The Performance Institute held the PMP Prep training in Arlington, VA. This newly extended 4 day training focused on in the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), in particular some best in class tips and techniques for taking and passing the PMP examination.
In recent years, the overall importance of the PMP certification has grown causing much more people to want to apply for the credentials. The PMP is managed by the Project Management Institute of PMI and is the second level of project management expertise.
In late 2007, a new certification, PgMP (Program Management Professional) was introduced by the PMI for Program Managers.
What is important to note about the PMP certification is that the PMP status is granted for a period of three years. During this time, PMPs have to collect 60 PDUs (Professional Development Units) to verify their professional development. Here at the Performance Institute, we are able to offer the many courses needed to certify more project management professionals.
Delegates also received a 40 minutes tutorial from the Institute’s Senior Director Matthew Sheaff on how to actually register for the exam on the PMI website. At the end of the course delegates took a real length 4 hours PMP examination. The exam will be graded by the Institute and score sent out after the New years. Delegates were pleased with the addition of the examination at the end because as one delegate mentioned, it provided her with a “baseline” to know just how she might do on the actual exam which she is scheduled to take in January.
Delegates were trained on all phases of the project from the initiation to the closeout of the project. They referred to the PMBOK throughout the course and the instructor highlighted many tricks and tips listed in the book that will hopefully increase their chances of passing.
The next PMP Prep course will be March 23-26th 2008.
