How do you View Your PMO?
As organizations start to implement Project Management Offices to garner greater results, one of the main implementation questions that is asked is, ‘How do you or how do you want to, view your PMO?” Roger Parish, PMP, recently led a discussion at The 2007 Project Management Office Summit on this topic.

The first view of the PMO is that it serves as a staff support function only. In this capacity the PMO reports to the executive but it only oversees the other projects and programs within an organization instead of having a direct relationship with them. A more common approach to PMO implementation is known as the Line and Staff approach. In this approach – the PMO is directly in line with the executive and all programs and projects which the PMO oversees report directly back to the project management office. The following chart depicts how this would line up in an organization.
